August is National Eye Exam Month and here at NIMA we encouraging you to schedule an appointment with your eye doctor!  As Dr. Manav K. Salwan explains, “An annual eye exam is vital for good health. It literally gives insight to your health.  This is especially important for people with diabetes or high blood pressure.”

How does diabetes and high blood pressure affect your eye health?  Chronically high blood sugar from diabetes and uncontrolled high blood pressure is associated with damage to the tiny blood vessels in the eye that are crucial to properly interpret light into signals.  Damage to the vision due to these conditions sometimes cannot be reversed. Often the early stages of damage do not cause any noticeable symptoms, but can be detected in an exam performed by an eye care professional.

Eyes are one of the most sensitive and important parts of your body! Take care of them!

Many Ophthalmologists in the Northern Illinois area are extending their office hours for the month of August!  If you need a list of providers, please call our office!
